Worldview Target: College-age Americans with no church background
In understanding how to bring the gospel to oral people groups, it helps to learn how to use Bible stories as an effective ministry tool. OneStory trains field staff in three skills: how to choose the Bible stories to use, how to work with mother-tongue storytellers to craft the stories in their language, and how to tell the stories in a way that is natural for their language and culture. We then work with the mother-tongue storytellers to see how the stories can be used for evangelism, discipleship, and equipping leaders. One of the key aspects of training is to be able to pass on what you learn to others.
As part of this process, we ask the participants in OneStory Quest to be able to tell 33 Bible stories before arriving at the training. These stories will be used in different ways during training and Questers must be prepared to tell any of the stories in front of the group without aid.
Anyone who learns these stories will reap the blessings of hiding God's
Word in his/her heart! We are providing this prototype set of stories as an aid to understanding chronological Bible storying. You might choose to memorize some or all of these stories as part of equipping yourself for your own ministry. More importantly, you might research a specific group (inner-city grade school children, truck drivers, business executives) that you are called to reach and craft a customized set of stories for them.
Learning dozens of Bible stories may seem like a daunting task, but rest assured, it's not as difficult as you might think! Most of the stories will be very familiar to you already. You don't have to recite each story, word for word. As you learn and tell each story, it should be natural and it should sound like a story – your own story – when you tell it. Try to internalize the story, make it personal, and know the content well. Think of it as relating a friend's story – like how you might tell your best friend what happened to your brother the other day – except in this case you are relating a story from Moses, or one of the disciples, or Paul.
